Man Bitten by Tiger is in Good Condition

A Baraboo man bitten by a Siberian tiger Friday at a big cat rescue facility was upgraded from fair to good condition Saturday at UW Hospital.

John M. Meeker, 38, a volunteer at the Wisconsin Big Cat Rescue and Educational Center in Rock Springs, was grabbed by the tiger and bitten on his arm. He was flown by helicopter to UW Hospital, where he underwent surgery to close the wound, said Jeff Kozlowski, owner of the nonprofit rescue facility.

"He's up today, walking around and talking," Kozlowski said Saturday.

Kozlowski said the tiger won't be punished. As Meeker was being loaded into the helicopter Friday, he told his wife to tell Kozlowski it wasn't the tiger's fault, Kozlowski said.
